Leatrice Patillo, cook at Halifax Community College’s Child Care Center, was recently notified by the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service that she has successfully completed the ServSafe® certification course. The 16-hour course provides participants with up-to-date food safety information.

The course is taught twice per year by the Halifax County Cooperative Extension and Halifax County Environmental Health staff. Topics include “Introduction to Food Safety,” “Overview of Foodborne Microorganisms and Allergens,” “Personal Hygiene,” “Purchasing, Receiving and Storage,” “Preparation, Cooking and Serving,” and “Facilities, Cleaning and Sanitizing, and Pest Management.”

Patillo earned ServSafe certification by successfully completing the standards set by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation for the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination, which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute-Conference for Food Protection.
