HCC Biology class celebrates Earth Day
WELDON, N.C. – In celebration of Earth Day, the HCC Biology 112 class hosted a tree planting on April 22. Terry and Donna Clements donated the four-year-old Japanese weeping cherry tree. It was planted at the Roanoke Valley Fitness Interactive Trail on the HCC campus.

Earth Day was established on Apr. 22, 1970, when 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate on behalf of a healthy, sustainable environment. It achieved rare political support from both major political parties, rich and poor, urban dwellers and farmers, businesses and labor leaders.

The first Earth Day led to the creation of the US Environmental Protection Agency, the passage of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. In 1990, Earth Day went global, with 200 million people from 141 nations participating.
