Seven to be honored at HCC African-American Heroes event, Feb. 19
 
WELDON, N.C. – For the eighth year, Halifax Community College (HCC) will hold its “Saluting Our Local African-American Heroes” celebration. Special honors will be bestowed on seven community leaders during the Feb. 19 ceremony to be held at The Centre. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

This year’s honorees include:
  • Sandra Bryant (Human Resource Specialist, Halifax Electric Membership Corporation)
  • Bishop Shelton C. Daniel (Pastor, Greater Joy North)
  • Rev. Timothy Edwards (Pastor, Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church)
  • Rev. Anthony Flowers (Pastor, Tillery Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and Educational Assistant, North East Prep)
  • John Robert Jones, Ed.D. (Retired Administrator and Educator, Mentor)
The Presidential Heroes Award will be presented to Kuyzendra A. Cobb (Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Planner, KapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation) and Carolyn C. Johnson (Halifax County Commissioner).

Heroes are chosen based on their commitment and contributions to the community, unselfish devotion to others, initiative, innovation and leadership, and willingness to share time and wisdom through community service.
