HCC students launch rockets
Halifax Community College (HCC) students in Science Instructor Annabelle Anderton's General Physics I (PHY 251) class launched rockets, Dec. 10 on campus. The project provided a culminating activity for physics students and gave them a "real world" connection. Students applied physics principles in order to create their rockets. "cisThisThis is doing science in the classroom," commented Anderton. The course uses calculus-based mathematical models to introduce the fundamental concepts that describe the physical world. Topics include units and measurement, vector operations, linear kinematics and dynamics, energy, power, momentum, rotational mechanics, periodic motion, fluid mechanics and heat. Anderton gave special thanks to Angel's Closet for funding the model rockets through the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce.
