HCC awarded fourth year of U.S. Department of Education Grant
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) has been awarded a fourth year of funding through the Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI) Formula Grant made possible by the U.S. Department of Education for the 2014-15 academic year. The grant amount is $250,000 per year for five years, totaling $1.25 million.

The grant has provided funding at HCC for much-needed capital improvements, student success programming, equipment upgrades, library resources and facilities upgrades. The PBI grant has helped HCC sustain the delivery of quality programs, equipment and facilities for students.

According to the U.S. Department of Education’s website, the purpose of the PBI Program is "to strengthen eligible institutions to plan, develop, undertake and implement programs to enhance the institution's capacity to serve more low- and middle-income Black American students; to expand higher education opportunities for eligible students by encouraging college preparation and student persistence in secondary school and postsecondary education; and to strengthen the financial ability of the institution to serve the academic needs of these students."
