HCC Students Earn Microsoft Certifications
WELDON, N.C. – Five Halifax Community College (HCC) students recently earned the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification through the Microsoft IT Academy program launched in all 58 community colleges in the state. All five students became "Microsoft Certified" after passing the rigorous exam on Office 2013.

The newly certified students are:
  • Tracy Crocker (Business Administration), Microsoft Office Specialist Office Excel 2013
  • Sarah Franks (Medical Office Administration), Microsoft Office Specialist Office Excel 2013
  • Travis Godsey (Business Administration), Microsoft Office Specialist Office Excel 2013
  • Shawn Harbin (Associate in Arts), Microsoft Office Specialist Office Word 2013
  • Janika Wheeler (Business Administration), Microsoft Office Specialist Office Excel 2013
Achieving MOS certification validates that the students are knowledgeable in Microsoft Office computer skills and it will differentiate them in a competitive job market. Emmanuel Obi, program administrator for the Microsoft IT Academy, stated that "The students accomplished a difficult task in passing the exam and I am proud to say that I have students who are Microsoft certified. It certainly speaks to the caliber of students we work with at HCC."

The MOS certification is the premier credential chosen by individuals seeking to validate their knowledge, skills and abilities relating to the Microsoft Office application suite. The credential enables individuals who attain it to tap the full features and functionality of the Microsoft Office program, resulting in heightened levels of individual performance, confidence and differentiation in the job market.

HCC is an authorized Certiport Testing Site so students can conveniently sit for their certification exams without leaving the campus. The Microsoft IT Academy training is open to currently enrolled students of HCC, faculty and staff.
