HCC hosts NC BioNetwork STEM Bus

WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) hosted the North Carolina Community College BioNetwork Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Bus on April 24.

The STEM bus is a 40-foot mobile learning lab designed to engage and inspire people to discover life science careers. A touchscreen TV, iPads, a solar panel readout and other highly technical items highlight career areas. A combination of hands-on, technical demonstrations and displays allow visitors to learn about specific careers by completing individual job tasks through short experiments or mini labs.

The goals of the STEM bus program are to: provide hands-on, inquiry-based activities, equipment, games, information and media to increase the interest of STEM-related subject matter; educate state residents about STEM educational opportunities through N.C. Community Colleges and other programs; and, highlight interesting STEM careers to visitors of all ages.

N.C. Community Colleges and BioNetwork provide funding for the outreach program to encourage engagement with participants and provide unique hands-on STEM resources.
