Pin Points Theatre presents "1001 Black Inventions" at HCC

WELDON, N.C. – Pin Points Theatre, based in Washington, D.C., presented "1001 Black Inventions” on Feb. 6 at The Centre at Halifax Community College (HCC).

The play, which dates to 1983, was written and researched by Pin Points, Inc. owner Ersky Freeman. "The reason for writing the play was that Blacks were projected as athletes or entertainers which went against the teaching of my parents,” explained Freeman. "My parents taught me about the intellectual contributions of Blacks and I wanted to show those achievements.”

"1001 Inventions" is a play that features the lives of brilliant men and women. The audience is then transported into the Twilight Zone with a typical American family attempting to survive in a world without inventions created by Africans and African Americans. Audiences laugh themselves into the realization that Black ingenuity is an integral part of their everyday lives.

Some of those achievements include the following innovations/inventions: air conditioner, airplane, aspirin, automatic transmission, bicycle, car, computer, engine (various), fire extinguisher, gas mask, generator, ironing board, lamp, metal, milk, paper bag, refrigeration for trucks and railways, portable scales, surgery (various) and the telephone transmitter, to name a few.
