Wray to speak at 2013 HCC Commencement
WELDON, N.C. – Representative Michael H. Wray will be the featured speaker at Halifax Community College's (HCC) commencement exercises slated for 10 a.m., Saturday, May 11, in The Centre's auditorium. During the ceremony, 393 degrees, certificates and diplomas will be conferred. This is the College's 46th annual commencement.

Wray is the deputy minority leader in the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing House District 27 which includes Northampton and Halifax counties. He was born in Roanoke Rapids on April 6, 1967, to Harold W. and Shirley Clary Wray. He is a lifelong resident of Northampton County. He attended Northeast Academy and Barton College.

His professional background includes being a businessman and developer. His experience includes work with G. W. Hux Insurance Agency, Gaston Hardware, Wray's Sheet Metal, LLC, AAA Mini Storage, Gaston Mini Storage, Wray Developments, Citizens Community Bank where he is chairman of the local board, Dunlow & Wray Company and First Med Alert.

Wray's political activities include being Gaston Town Commissioner from 1991-1995 and N.C. House of Representatives member from 2005-present.

His professional, civic and service organization involvement includes serving on the board of directors for Angel's Closet and Roanoke Valley Veterans, vice president of the Northeastern Active Wildlife Club, being a lifetime member of the Northampton Branch of the NAACP and being a member of the Rotary Club, Lions Club, National Wildlife Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and the NRA.

Wray serves on the North Carolina Economic Development Board, North Carolina Board of CPA Examiners and the Governor's Crime Commission. His legislative committees include Regulatory Reform (vice chair), Appropriations, Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural and Economic Resources, Commerce and Job Development, Commerce and Job Development Subcommittee on Energy and Emerging Markets, Environment, Health & Human Services, Insurance, Public Utilities and Energy and Regulatory Reform Subcommittee on Business and Labor.

Wray is married to Kay Woodard Wray and they have twin sons, Phillip and Matthew. He is a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Commencement is open to the public.
