Peterkin speaks to HCC Faculty and Staff during Summit
WELDON, N.C. Ė Timothy J. Peterkin addressed the topic of "Looking at our Legal Rights: Stand Your Ground" with Halifax Community College (HCC) faculty, staff and administration during the sixth annual Preparing Men for Intellectual, Academic & Educational Success (PRIDE) of Halifax Male Mentoring Programís Men to Men Summit on April 10.

Peterkin addressed:
  • Allowable and prohibited reasons for which an employer can terminate
  • Civil and criminal liability
  • Contracts
  • Duty to mitigate damages and reasonable care
  • Enforcing a gratuitous promise
  • Freedom of speech on Facebook/Twitter
  • How to request a lawyer
  • Personal injury
  • Reason of suspicion and probable cause
  • The right to defend oneself from intruders
  • Warrant to search
  • Wills
Peterkin received his bachelorís degree in English from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and his juris doctor from NCCU School of Law. After serving for several years in the non-profit community, he decided to expand his ability to serve clients and opened a law office, The Peterkin Law Firm, in Raleigh, N.C. The firm has accepted cases statewide. At NCCU, Peterkin supervises students in the Foreclosure Prevention Project. He teaches Legal Writing and Analysis, Legal Research and Persuasion and Legal Letters. Peterkin is a member of the N.C. Bar Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
