HCC Women's Conference hosts more than 300 on March 20

WELDON, N.C. – The Halifax Community College (HCC) Women of Excellence mentoring group held its third annual Women to Women Conference on March 20 in The Centre as part of HCC's celebration of Women’s History Month. The theme for the event was "Successful Women Think Differently" and an estimated 325 guests attended.

Writer, commentator and certified personal and executive coach Valorie Burton was the keynote speaker. The conference kick-off speaker was Dr. Angelia Nelson, Elizabeth City State University professor and coach.

Burton discussed "Successful Women Think Differently: 9 Habits to Make You Happier, Healthier, & More Resilient." During her talk, Burton encouraged guests to think big and to believe in themselves. She also discussed the definitions of success, resilience and purpose. Burton emphasized that we can choose to change our thoughts, stay positive and open doors of opportunity.

Nelson talked to the audience about "walking in greatness." She emphasized using one’s talents, gifts, passion and purpose as a blessing to others. Nelson encouraged attendees to expand their thinking process, to think positively about themselves and to know that they deserve the best.

A number of activities took place during the conference including breakout sessions, a luncheon and a book signing.

This event was funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education PBI Formula Grant. Additional sponsorship was provided by The Daily Herald.
