“Every Woman Counts!”
Community College hosted “Every Woman Counts!” during Breast
Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), Oct. 8 at The Centre.
Director of Counseling Services, Dr. Carolyn Stuart, served
as mistress of ceremony for the event.
After the welcome given by Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, Sr., HCC
president, a recognition of special guests and cancer
survivors was held. Tony Brown, Halifax County manager, made
a presentation of the BCAM proclamation. Dorothy
White-Cannon, a breast cancer survivor, gave her testimonial
and Ronnie Smith, a co-survivor, talked about ways that
family and friends can support those dealing with cancer. A
“Bells for Remembrance” candle lighting ceremony was
conducted by the Rural Health Group Lay Health Advisors.
Afterwards, a balloon release of pink and white balloons was
held in honor of those who have passed on and also
survivors. Several exhibitors featured information and
giveaways during the fair portion of the event.
