Students attend orientation sessions prior to classes at HCC

Halifax Community College held new student orientation sessions on Aug. 12 in The Centre. The sessions gave students an opportunity to hear from college administration, faculty, staff and returning students and to explore the campus. According to Dean of Student Services Barbara Bradley-Hasty, the number of students attending this orientation may have set a record for the event.

“You did pick the right place and you are here are the right time,” said HCC President, Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, Sr. to the students. “Everybody says that college won’t change them. I would be very disappointed if we graduate you across this stage and there is no change. Be open to change,” he said.

“I’m so excited to see all of you here,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Erica Holmes. She recognized faculty and staff, who introduced themselves to the students. “It’s all about you and providing educational resources for you,” she added.

After the opening session, students then toured the campus, visiting various departments.
