Maryellen Jones kicks off Black History Month

Maryellen Jones: Art Exhibit Unveiling kicked off Black History Month activities at Halifax Community College on Feb. 4. The event was held in The Centre. An artist and HCC art instructor, Jones teaches part-time in the college’s Continuing Education program—Scotland Neck off campus center. She studied art at Incarnate Word College in Texas and Maryland Institute of Art, later earning an associate degree in education from the Community College of Baltimore. “It is always my goal to get some exposure and perhaps deliver some messages to the communities where I show my work,” said Jones whose art is about what she sees, feels and experiences. The exhibit will remain open for viewing from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays through the end of February.
