 HCC Continuing Education Classes offered in August

Halifax Community College's Continuing Education Department will offer a Nurse Aide I (NAI) class, Medication Aide Administration class and an Effective Teacher Training class in August at the Weldon campus.

The NAI class is slated to run from 5:30-8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Aug. 25-Dec. 8. The class has 10 slots available. The registration fee is $84.50. The instructor will provide more information about class requirements and expenses.

The NAI Program prepares individuals to work under the supervision of licensed nursing professionals in performing nursing care and services to patients in a hospital, nursing facility or home care agency. Emphasis is placed on the many facets of the aging process as well as patient's rights, nutrition, safety, special care procedures and the role of the nursing assistant as a health care team member. After successful completion of the program, students will be listed in the N.C. Division of Facility Services' Nurse Aide Registry.

The Medication Aide Administration class will run from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 4-13. Ten slots are available. The registration fee is $55. The instructor will provide more information about class requirements and expenses. The 24-hour course is geared to students who are currently listed as Nurse Aide I with the N.C. Nurse Aide Registry. It covers the basic preparation for the administration of medications by unlicensed persons in a variety of settings. The course is designed to prepare individuals to take the competency testing required for listing as a Medication Aide in the state of North Carolina.

“Effective Teacher Training” will be offered on the main campus in Building 500, Room 505 from Aug. 11-21. The class will meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 1:00-4:00 p.m., Aug. 11 & 19; from 9:00 a.m.-12 noon, Aug. 12 & 18, from 9:00 am-12 noon and 1:00-4:00 p.m., Aug. 14-15 and Aug. 21. The class is designed for substitute, pre-service and in-service teachers. Taught by instructor Ellen Grant, activities will enable educators to effectively integrate research and practice. Participants will receive 3.0 CEU credits for completing the class. Cost is $55.
