As part of its year-long 40th anniversary celebration, the Halifax Community College (HCC) Library invites the public to come visit its facility. The week of July 2-6 has been designated as Open House week for the campus library.

This is an effort to let the public know that not only is the HCC Library an academic collection that serves the college; it is also a public library that welcomes local patrons. Services include a two-week book circulation period, inter-library loan (for books not owned by HCC), and free access to a large computer lab. The lab provides Internet access, the Microsoft Office suite of productivity programs, and various data services subscribed by the college.

Patrons need to be at least 18 years of age, have a photo ID, and be willing to sign an Acceptable Use statement for accessing the Internet. The library collection consists of 27,000 books, most of which are non-fiction with a smaller collection of fiction including a few children's books. Equipment and audio-visual material loans are usually restricted to on-campus use.

The library is currently on its summer schedule of 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Friday. It will be closed for the upcoming July 4th holiday. During the fall and spring semesters, the library remains open until 9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and until 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Evening hours fluctuate occasionally according to the college class schedule.
