HCC LIBRARY TO HOST OPEN HOUSE
As part of its year-long 40th anniversary
celebration, the Halifax Community College (HCC) Library invites the
public to come visit its facility. The week of July 2-6 has been
designated as Open House week for the campus library.
This is an effort to let the public know that not
only is the HCC Library an academic collection that serves the
college; it is also a public library that welcomes local patrons.
Services include a two-week book circulation period, inter-library
loan (for books not owned by HCC), and free access to a large computer
lab. The lab provides Internet access, the Microsoft Office suite of
productivity programs, and various data services subscribed by the
Patrons need to be at least 18 years of age, have a
photo ID, and be willing to sign an Acceptable Use statement for
accessing the Internet. The library collection consists of 27,000
books, most of which are non-fiction with a smaller collection of
fiction including a few children's books. Equipment and audio-visual
material loans are usually restricted to on-campus use.
The library is currently on its summer schedule of
8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Friday.
It will be closed for the upcoming July 4th holiday. During the fall
and spring semesters, the library remains open until 9:30 p.m.
Monday-Thursday and until 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Evening hours fluctuate
occasionally according to the college class schedule.
